Study Notes on ENG 351: Eighteenth Century Literature
ENG 351: Eighteenth Century Literature is aimed to introduce English students to the influence of “satire” and “comedy” in the literature of England from the 1660—1700. It also introduces them to the kind of literature the English people had in the 18th century and perhaps to know if there was prose, drama or poetry at that time. It also aims to see how the artists have been influenced by their socio-cultural environment. Emphasis is therefore put on the artist, the works and the environment. The major interest is to introduce to the students, the nature and texture of the 18th century literature in content and form in order to know what makes it different from the 17th and other centuries.
