Yes, 2021 will be better than in 2020. Here’s why.

If you’re looking forward to the end of 2020 and the start of 2021, you have good reason to. By spring, the COVID-19 vaccines you’ve been reading about in the news will begin reaching the scale where they’ll have a global impact.
At least in wealthy countries, life should be much closer to normal than it is now.
For my final blog post of the year, I’ve written an in-depth look at the stories behind some of the innovations that are making this possible.
Our foundation played a role in some successes and, as I write in the post, some instructive failures.
I see promise in the year ahead, and not just on COVID-19. I think we also have a chance to make concrete progress on another major global challenge: climate change.
There are several reasons—including a major United Nations summit hosted by the U.K.—to believe that 2021 can be an important year in the effort to avoid a climate disaster.
