After months of trending online for rapes accusation, Baba Ijesha finally brought to court today being the 16th day of June 2021, with Christian prayer book in his hand, he pleaded Not Guilty

Olayinka Olanrewaju, the Yoruba actor popularly known as Baba Ijesha has been denied bail, though he pleads not guilty in magistrate court 1, Yaba, Lagos.
Recall that in April, he was arrested over the alleged defilement of a minor. Who was a foster daughter to Nigerian comedienne and actress, princess?
After spending 25 days in police cell detention, he was granted bail on May 17 but he however stayed in detention as he was unable to meet his bail conditions.
His counsel Kayode Olabiran, has, however, pleaded with the court to release his client on health grounds but his plea was not granted. As the magistrate, P.E Nweke made it clear that he cannot grant his client bail as the case is no longer within his jurisdiction because the case has been filed before the high court.

Speaking further on the case, Yetunde Cardoso, the superintendent of police in charge of the case said:
“Mr. Olanrewaju was actually granted bail during the JUSUN strike and based on the conditions given, he couldn’t meet them and he was properly charged today.
Just like the court stated, the case has already been filed before the high court and the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Lagos State Ministry of Justice has taken over the matter from the police.
So presently, we have handed it over to the DPP so the case is before them (DPP). It has nothing to do with the police anymore, it’s now left for the DPP to handle it.”
The popular actor pleaded not guilty when the charges against him were read. The charges include; rape, sexual assault, and abuse of a minor. Indecent treatment of a child, defilement of a child, sexual assault by penetration, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault which contravenes Sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262, and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.
