JUST IN: The Oil Rich But Economically Disempowered Niger Delta Region Of Nigeria
A Facebook User AkpoBari Celestine made a post lamenting on the ill state of Ogba/Egbema, Rivers state Nigeria. See contents in Quote Below
Just back from another field trip to highly devastated, conquered territories by multinational oil companies operating in the oil-rich but economically disempowered Niger Delta Region of Nigeria.
This time around, I didn’t visit the Ogoni area but the Ogba/Egbema zone where Agip and Total oil companies occupy more areas than the landowners.
That if you visit Ogbogu, the home town of my friend, Dr. Orike Didi -the Dibia of Panya, Obagi, and Idu-Obosiokwu, every planted crop and fruit trees look dead.
Agip and Ahungers and poverty are, as you can see from the pictures, gas is still flared in very close proximity to human habitation, pipeline criss-cross their available farmlands, their taps dry and there is poverty everywhere
Farmers are lamenting as crops are not performing but dying, the host community looks devastated, poor, and abandoned by both the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, Federal government of Nigeria, and Government of Rivers State as a host state.
Is indeed a situation of no one seems to care about the people ( The inhabitant communities). Is pathetic indeed, see more picture footages, as shared by AkpoBari Celestine below

The case of Ogba/Egbema community in Rivers state is not different from other oil-producing communities in Niger Delta, Nigeria. they are all familiar with the same storyline poverty in the oil-rich community
