Met Tani Adewumi Nigeria Refugee Boy Who Won Chess Championship In U.S.A: from New York state as shared by Nikolas Kristof
As more ugly news breakout from Africa Nigeria, A Nigerian genius in the USA Tani Adewumi has been awarded by: Nikolas Kristof, award-winning journalist, the only one to have won a Pulitzer prize together with his brilliant wife.
Nikolas Kristof is happy to share Tani Adewumi story and he wrote: See screenshot below
“Remember Tani Adewumi, the Nigerian refugee boy I wrote about a couple of years ago when he won the NY State chess championship for his age group
Tani while living in a homeless shelter? Readers then stepped up and helped the family get housing and helped the parents get jobs also
Today the global world is joyful to celebrate Tani once more: Tani just won another championship, in Fairfield, CT, and is now (as a fifth-graded fifth-grader) a Chess National Master with a rating of 2223.
In “Tightrope,” we wrote that Tani exemplifies the principle that “talent is universal, but opportunity is not.” there many children just like Tani all over the world.
Fortune met Tani and he was discovered among thousands to millions of talented children dying in severe poverty in Africa due to bad leadership, bad Africa countries government policies
Tani, born by Nigerian parents but was able to soar because his homeless shelter was in a school district with a chess program, and the teacher realized that his family didn’t have resources and waived the chess club fees. We need more of that!
Yes Tani school teacher saw the talents in Tani, haven notice that Tani’s parent does not have the money to take care of Tani’s chess club fees, the teacher quickly waived the fees
Below is a picture of Chess Master Tani Adewumi”
Africa, not just Nigeria has so many talented kids like Tani Adewumi” but due to poor leadership, corruption from the side of the Government throughout the Africa continent, marginalization, and injustice witness in this part of the world have killed great talents
Most of these talented kids fall apart to become a menace to society, few are kidnapped daily, the female children among them are forced to early motherhood while others are killed
Many are adopted from their school, recruited to join the Boko haram and banditry now terrorizing West Africa, is pathetic seeing innocent life and great talents in Africa being waisted though to failure from The Africa nations leadership
Just like him ”Tani Adewumi” when you visit Africa, for example in Nigeria whose leadership has failed its citizens, there are many kids with amazing talents, gifted and knowledge but lack the audience and opportunity to excel
Africa leaders are corrupt and selfish, visionless and wicked that if ”Tani Adewumi” was to be In Africa Nigeria, it would have been impossible for him to excel, come to talk of him achieving such great feet as Chess National Master in U. S state of New York
In the western world, Africans are thriving, making the black race proud, while in Africa, back home hundred to thousand of Africa children, youth, and young women are killed either by Boko haram, Politicians, Ritualist, Bandit, Herdmen herder, Cult related activities, unknown gunmen, and many others ill social vices
The laws and policy in Africa is design to protect and enrich only those in leadership, the politicians, their family, and friends alone, while the rest of Africa national are left to their fate
We encourage African leaders to learn from Tani’s achievement and invest more into human development, education, and capacity development, by so doing more children as Tani Adewumi will emerge from the Africa continent thereby creating greater opportunity for all Africa children
