Why this matters, back then in May this year 2021, U.S. President Joseph R. Biden Jr. pledged to donate 80 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to other countries in the world, including 25 million of them going to African nations.
The pledge was part of President Joe Biden measures to insured that vaccines go round the world, even down to the poor nations
The pledge was followed by another at the G7 summit in June 2019, President Biden made another pledge to donate 500 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to the world and to Africa nations
His global vaccine coordinator Gayle E. Smith told reporters last week that Africa will also receive “a significant portion” of those doses.
The week that just ended saw a record number of vaccine doses shipped to African nations. Out of the 22 million doses shipped to 23 countries around the world, many of them went to Cameroon, Senegal, Zambia, Niger, The Gambia, Lesotho, Tanzania, Morocco, Benin, Mozambique, Madagascar, Liberia, and Eswatini.
Those vaccine doses are not enough for Africa to get fully vaccinated but as I have said in the past, it’s a great step in the right direction that will save lives.
Though the COVID Vaccination process has not been fully inforced by the Africa Nationals government, millions of people across Africa have not been well informed on the need, why they should take the vaccine to save a life
The government attitude in this part of the world, the Africa continent has been very poor and most Africans are downplaying COVID 19 including the Deltan variant
